Since he brought up my name, I just wanted to let everyone know that I've
known Tony since he was, what, 13? And in my opinion:

1) He's much more experienced than he lets on; and
2) He has the *best* attitude about approaching more advanced diving
techniques of *anyone* I have ever had the pleasure to dive with.

I think attitude is almost more important than abilities for a lot of the
more technically complex dives. Raimo, I agree that too many divers are
pushing beyond their limits before they achieve a robust body of
experience; but I wouldn't necessarily equate this with divers becoming
interested in "technical" stuff too early in their diving careers. I think
the most important component of being a good "technical" diver is the
shift from memorizing to *understanding* limits and such, and I think this
should start on Day One of a diver's training. I also understand your
perspective (as shared by many on this list) that you can't be a safe deep
diver until you've had the sh*t scared out of you a couple of times.
However, this rule only applies to us boneheads who started out with the
wrong attitude in the first place. People like Tony, who have the right
attitude from the start, are not only exceedingly rare among divers, but
are also way ahead of the game.

Just my opinions....

Aloha,
Rich
