Those of you who have been on this list for awhile know that I'm no neophyte concerning invoking George Irvine's venomous keyboard. We finally took it off line and achieved a mutual respect for each other. I came to realize that George's temperament is fired by a passion for safety and an intolerance for those who advocate operations in the gray zone. George has been around too many friends and strangers who have died in the gray zone. Last November I made it back from the gray zone; my dive partner didn't. When I heard that George had been removed from the list I wondered if anyone would pay the ultimate price because no one was there to tell (scream at) them that what they were doing was dangerous. I'll agree with all the arguments that George is arrogant, uncivil, and lacks in effective diplomacy (On the list). Lately, his postings have been much more substantial with the only decline in s/n coming from people who are (apparently) deliberately baiting him. I detest wading through the vulgar and profane writing as much as anyone but I'll gladly put up with it if there's a chance that I might glean something that will keep me, my friends, or even strangers from dying. Think about holding your buddy while he takes his last breath. Think about telling the sheriff and coroner what happened (over and over again). Think about explaining to his family why this happened. Think about the looks and whispered comments at his funeral. Think about reading an autopsy report of someone you really liked. Think about having to think about it EVERY DAY. Is a little insult to our sensibilities too much to pay? Think about it.
