Gary, I believe in the perfect teacher. The perfect teacher does not know everything, seeks to learn everything, teaches sound safe diving practices based on his own learning, ability and experience utilizing those methods developed from the mistakes of others, teaches within his own training ability and not beyond, and refuses to certify students for monetary gain. Students should be certified based on ability, attitude and thorough completion of the intended training curriculum. I deal with divers every day, its my business. Divers are cheap, will jeopardize themselves and others to save a buck, think their brains contain more diving knowledge than carter has pills, and lately, if they dive deeper than 130 feet using a pony bottle with 50/50, read an ANDI manual, they think that they are a technical diver! (Thank God that all divers are not like this). A little misinformation, especially at the technical level, taught to a student, can potentially lead to disaster, which is what I believe George Irvine, and the agencies, would like to prevent. Now they must figure out a way to agree on what is right, and what is wrong-and the battle continues! Raimo.
