Subject: Your opinions please on diver rescue product idea
I am planning a new safety device for use by groups of two or

more divers. The device will enable scuba divers in distress and/or lost

from the main group, to issue an alarm call (while submerged) and

be located and resuced by other divers in the party equipped with a

similar devices.

I would value your opinion on the following points to assist us in

product definition, i.e., what specific characteristics and features the

device should have to meet user needs.

1. Are you aware of any similar, currently available, products?

2. Would the device be of significant benefit to diver safety?

3. Would there be a demand for such a device among:

	(a)	Diving schools and instructors
	(b)	Sport divers
	(c)	Professional divers
	(d)	Military divers

4. What would be appropriate prices of single units for each of the

       applications in Q3?

5. With which technical standards should the device comply?

6. What technical/practical problems do you foresee for the

implementation or use of such a device?

7. What appropriate information should be provided by the lead

diver's response and location system (e.g., elapsed time, depth,

       direction) ?

8. In what format would direction/bearing information be most

      usefully given (e.g., visually, aurally)

9. What is the minimum acceptable direction bearing accuracy for

each of the applications in Q3?

10. What are the minimum and maximum depths at which the device

should be capable of operating, according to each of the

        applications in Q3?

11. What is the maximum range at which the device should be capable

        of operating?

12. What should be the minimum operational lifetime of a fully

charged battery pack from when a distressed diver issues an alarm

        call?

13. What would be appropriate physical attributes for the device

       (e.g., dimensions, weight, casing material)?

14. What additional features and capabilities do you think should be

        incorporated?

15. Would your organization provide a detailed evaluation of a beta

        system?

16. Any other comments or suggestions?
