GRAD STUDENT RESEARCH QUESTIONNAIRE

Hi there! This questionnaire was put together
by a team of graduate students at NYU as part of a telecommunications product
design course. Our goal
is to research and "mock up" an enhanced dive
computer for recreational SCUBA divers. We would
really appreciate it if you would take a few minutes
to answer our questions and return the form to us
at one of the following locations. Please also feel
free to contact us at the following addresses
with any questions you may have about our project.
Thanks!!

     5. No-decompression-limits meter
     6. Dive profile downloadable to PC
     7. Other features (please specify)

    8. Don't know/don't use

Do you use a dive computer that lets you download
your dive profile to your PC? If so, what do you do
with the information that you collect?

When you use a dive computer, do you also use backup
"analog" gauges to measure air pressure and depth?
     1. Yes
     2. No
     3. Don't know/don't use

If you have used a dive computer, are there any features
that you would like to have that you currently do not have
or which are not readily available?

Do you use a "wireless" tank pressure gauge? If so, what
are the benefits and disadvantages of using a wireless
gauge?

Do you use the DiveTalker computer, or another dive
computer that "talks" to you while underwater? If so,
what are the benefits and disadvantages of using a
"talking" computer?

Do you use a "regular" (ie: IBM, MacIntosh, etc.) computer
at the surface (say for home, work or school)?
     1. Yes
     2. No

UNDERWATER COMMUNICATIONS

Do you usually carry a slate underwater?
     1. Yes
     2. No

When you do carry a slate underwater, what do you use
it for?
     1. To communicate with other divers
     2. To conduct research underwater (fish-counting, note-
         taking, etc.)
     3. To both communicate and conduct research
     4. Other (please specify)

     4. Don't know/don't use

If you do use a slate to take notes or record research information underwater,
what kind of information do you record?

Do you use hand signals to communicate with other divers underwater?
     1. Yes
     2. No

When you are underwater, what are some of the messages
that you need to communicate to other divers most often?

Which of the following best describes the way you
communicate with other divers underwater?

     4. Arctic, ice diving

When you dive at the recreational SCUBA level, what types
of diving environments do you pursue? (circle as many
as apply)

If you have participated in a research-gathering dive at
the recreational SCUBA level of diving, what happned to
the information that you collected?

On any of your diving trips, whether for fun or for research, have you ever
