This weekend, I 've found out that following a fatality 3 weeks ago, the Gorgazzo springs (North East of Italy), the site is now off limits for divers. The Gorgazzo spring is a quite narrow vertical tunnel that drops almost on a straight line to 80 meters where a chamber opens up. The cave continues vertically to 110 meters, where it flattens out to 130 meters. At that point the tunnel makes another vertical turn and nobody explored it further. At 42 meters the "official" line ends and there there is a go no further sign. >From what I heard the deceased diver was diving on air beyond the sign and narcosis has been nemed the primary cause of his death. The cave is easy and there are no secondary passages where to get lost, but it is very difficult to resit the attraction of the depths as the cristal clear water invites you further in. I do not have any detailed report on the accident and this is only what I heard from local divers.
