John, Thanks for the message. Nope, I haven't made any significant modifications to the rig. Actually, I haven't had much time lately to use it - I've been too busy at work and fulfilling other obligations. With regard to the funding - your question came with amazingly perfect timing. The e-mail message I received just before yours was from the National Science Foundation informing us that our proposal to explore the deep reefs of Palau was denied. Jack Randall, Sylvia Earle and I made arrangements with Cis-Lunar to use their rebreathers to spend some time at 300-500' on the deep drop-offs there in search for new critters, and we asked NSF for the money to do it. The proposal was as solid as it could have been, yet it was still turned down. We are waiting for the reviewers comments to arrive to find out why we were denied - but I suspect it had something to do with the "non-standard" nature of the diving we were proposing. Alas, maybe some day we'll convinve the world that we're not crazy (or maybe the world will convince us that we really ARE crazy!) Anyway, I've got to get back to work now.
