  Gary,

  As I recall, Tom Farnquist directed the retreival of the Edmund Fitzgerald
  bell.  As executive director of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society,
he received help from National Geographic, Sony and movie director James 
  Cameron (lighting) to complete the task.

  The administrative offices of the Great Lakes Shipwreck Historical Society
are  at 111 Ashmun Street, Sault Ste. Marie, MI 49783, (906) 635-1742.  I don't 
  have his number at the Paradise Point museum where he still may be director
of  the lighthouse complex ran by the National Park Service.
