ignoring all the stuff we so nauseatingly AGREE about <g>...

i don't have a problme with people collecting patches (if that measn
collecting courses)
more training is ALWAYS better than less (and before someone starts to rail
about how the training can be not so great and full of "wrong" information
about which hose to breathe from, etc....there is always SOMETHING to be
learned, even if it's what NOT to do)

i have as much problem or more with divers who have convinced themselves
that they know everything and knew it before the rest of us were walking
and why change ANYTHING now just because a few hundred years of
developement have gone by?

perhaps this is more of an open water phenom...but i still see the ONLY USN
tables are "good", ONLY a horse collar BC is worthwhile, ONLY this one type
of regulator is acceptable (and it's usually a brass second stage,
discontinued model) etc. types more than i see the "patch collectors"

these are the guys who are also going to say "i've been mixing my own gas
for years, i'm not paying someone to blend it now..." "i've been diving at
higher PO2's than 1.6 for years, i must be immune to O2 hits..what's all
the FUSS about?"...

someone who is training is at least accepting that he NEEDS to learn...that
he CAN learn (unlike an ant, i wasn't born knowing EVERYTHING i need to
know)

those of us HERE are likely to be reading all we can and learning all we
can anyway..we're the ones interested enough to spend time and money
reading stupid lists such as these to get every SCRAP of dive related
information we can ..because we KNOW that we will sooner or later and more
often than not learn something new

i'd rather encourage THAT attitude than the 'you're bound to learn by doing
EVENTUALLY..." approach

cheers,
ww
