It is a long and thorough process where you > start in a high wing single engine trainer and work your way up the ladder > from there. you also don't learn to fly with the Blue Angels or Thunderbirds by turning up at the hangar one day and asking if you can hang-about and absorb their wisdom rather, as you suggest, there IS a specific and regimented progression of skills through training until one can fly the jet then if one is exceptional, one might qualify fo the group similarly, one might never be "good enough" to dive with WKKP (or fill in your own equivalent for the Blue Angels) but that does not mean that formal technical TRAINING has no place
