I don't know how much of a problem H2 generation is in the
gear you decribe but it appears the commercial guys put H2
scrubbers in gear where the switch and battery share housing.
I've interpreted this as a method of removing the H2 before
a spark from the switch can trigger a combustion.  Possibly H2
could form in lighthead too if water is present.

I'm not aware of MR bulbs with "catalytic converters".
Seems a bit suspect.
