Dear All, I am posting this on behalf of a friend in the discussed team. Alan. -------------------------------Report Begins----------------------------------- OXYGEN TOXICITY INCIDENT REPORT On 21st August a 26 year old male diver experienced CNS Oxygen poisoning during decompression after a dive to the Lusitania off the the coast of South West Ireland. The diver's maximum depth was 93m and he left the bottom one minute ahead of schedule. Ascent was calm and relaxed and all the stops were completed as intended until 18 minutes into the Oxygen stop at 6m when he went into a siezure and began to convulse. He was given a controlled lift to the surface and the support divers began ressussitation immediately. The casualty was divested of his equipment and was hauled into the boat, meanwhile the rescue services were alerted. Within 3 minutes he bagan breathing again and was on constant flow oxygen. Within 50 minutes the casualty and rescue supervisor had been evacuated by helicopter - 15 minutes later the diver was under a doctors supervision. Although some decompression was omitted he showed no signs of DCS. His condition did not require immediate hospitalisation and so as a precaution he was treated with RN Table 62 before admission to Cork Hospital where he is stable and is now being treated for possible Mediastinal Emphysema and shock. At the time the diver convulsed it is believed his CNS loaaading was less than 70% and his OTU count was negligable. It is highly unusual that an O2 hit should occur under these conditions and the diver has shown no previous susceptibility of this nature.
