We have been diving in cold waters here in Finland.
I can tell that there are lot's of other regulators
which also blow bits of ice when diving in a really
cold environment. This effect is not always harmless.

I have been diving with the classic Scubapro Mark V
and had got high velocity bits. Although the first stage
was covered with 1 cm layer of ice when that dive
ended. This was not a very typical dive. Many of my friends
with different kind of regulators get bits also, not
unusual at all.

Sometimes when you dive deep and cold, the forming of
ice can be so fast that the bits fly fast into your
throat which does not feel nice. As far as I know the
worst situation occurs when your first stage has just been
frozen and the regulator is free flowing. While surfacing
the rate of ice hits can be very high and it can make
your breathing difficult.

Greetings from the cold Scandinavian waters,
Turku, Finland
