Especially in the case of diagrams, where you have large areas of the same color, compression will do an amazing job. The GIF format is very common, but I know some copyright shit has arisen lately. If it aren't scanned in photo's, JPEG is almost useless, and besides, you'd need a true-color graphics card to appreciate it (which is still not very common). About Netcom's e-mail program: although I'm not familiar with it, I know most programs have some way of loading an existing (text) file for mailing. Assuming Netcom's program has such a capability, it's possible to convert binary files to a 'readable' text format and then mail them. UUENCODE is a utility program that does this. Although it originates from the Unix platform, it's available for most other platforms as well. There are some very fancy (public domain/shareware) versions for Windows around (like Wincode). This UUENCODE conversion is also the common format in the usenet binary newsgroups (such as alt.binaries.pictures). Regards, Paul.
