Jason,
The trouble with this kind of discussion is that people end up
being labelled as 'eliteist', remember all the trouble I had when I started
the 'education beyond certification' thread. I think that reesponsible
rebreather manufacturers will insist on much, much more than people
envisage. To expect a bog std OW scuba instructor to attend an IT
course and to subsequently teach people on a C2 rig is quite frankly
insane!. (incidentaly that is precicesly what one manufacturer is
attempting to do, the justification being that you 'tekkies' will frighten
the average diver).

Perhaps we are right?. Personally I side with Rich on this one. I would
not be happy to teach C2 until I had 12 months flying time, for all the
reasons that have been given previously. To fly a C2 rig you need to have
experience of ALL failures, need an awareness regime far above anything
required on OC coupled to a proper knowledge of the system workings

I cannot begin to discuss the theoretical aspects of the Cis L rig, let alone
the mechanics - Right Rich?. It would take an age. How then could I become
an instructor trainer after a cursory 4 hours input - I think not.

Elitist? - absolutley and it can remain so for me. Personally if I were a C2
manufacturer I would pull the ladder up quite a long way before I slept at
night

Regards

Chris
