 I use Dawn dishwashing detergent. Then I rinse the item in the dishwasher and 
 air dry it. (but you can't fit a tank into a dishwasher).  I heard simple
green 
 is a good detergent too.  I think you just want something mild, that does not 
 leave a residue.
