Guilty as charged.
I did not quote the contents of Mr. Irvine's private E-Mail to me.
It is generally considered poor form to publicly quote a private message.
It would now appear that I have his permission, so I will.

to this I replied back to Mr. Irvine via private E-Mail..

<Argon is already being used on DEEP dives as an intermediate deco gas.

A profound statement to say the least.

Our good Mr. Irvine then made the following public statement on Techdiver.

>Since Chris choses to be insulting, I
>don't mind reminding everyone that I get my deco information
>from people who at least have a small clue what they are
>talking about.

How I have managed to be insulting is beyond me.
I thought I was very careful in my comments.
From his response I thought it was clear that he did not want this topic to
be discussed on the open forum. And it may well be that most people are NOT
interested in it, and that is exactly why I asked the question, to see if it
is an issue or a non-issue.

If I insulted Mr. Irvine, I am publicly apologizing for having done so, it
was not my intention to insult him. To challenge his opinion, to be sure,
but not to insult.

As for getting our decompression information
"from people who at least have a small clue what they are
talking about" I offer the following...

John Crea developed the fundamental original algorithm in Abyss.

Dr. Bruce Weinke remodeled our equations to account for micro-bubble
nucleation, repetitive dives, multi-day diving and deeper than last diving.

Dr. Weinke is currently modeling in Water Temp, Workload, and Thermal Stress
for us.

Dr. Hamilton is Co-developing a commercial version of Abyss, which will be
used in Hyperbaric treatment centers as well as for commercial divers, both
for saturation and non-saturation applications.

Our BETA testers and project reviewers included: (but not limited to)
Gene Broom
Mike Busuttili
Jeff Bozanic
Robert Cason
Kim Cochran
John Comly
Billy Deans
Max Hahn
Robert Palmer
Richard Pyle
Gregg Stanton

>At least Chris properly named his software,
>because it truly is "abysmal", and his pathetic attempts to
>advertise this piece of crap are becoming annoying to those
>of us who actually do real decompression and mini-sat dives.
>That's right, tough guy. - George

But this last comment is where the line was crossed.
Yesterday morning was the first time a posting on Techdiver has resulted in
phone messages waiting for me. People actually called me to alert me to the
fact that Mr. Irvine was publicly slandering my company's product, making
Libelous statements and they wanted to know what legal action I was going to
take against him. That it has taken me over 24 hours to reply is due to the
fact that this letter had to be reviewed by our lawyer prior to posting.

I have no idea if Mr. Irvine has ever seen or used Abyss.
Perhaps he has, and he was completely unsatisfied with what we offer.
Over the course of 14 months, we have had 2 returns from users that were not
happy, so it is a possibility. On the other hand we now have about 2,000
copies of Abyss floating around the world in several different languages,
and as far as we can tell the rest of the users aer fairly well pleased with
what they have.

So I at least don't think Abyss is "this piece of crap" as Mr. Irvine states
and it would appear that most of our users don't either.

As for the insinuation that I don't "actually do real decompression".
Certainly living in Colorado, I do not dive as often or as actively as I
would like. But I think TDI can verify for anyone who cares to ask that I
have gone through their Extended Range Deep Air, Nitrox, Extended Nitrox,
and Mixed Gas Courses. And during the Mixed Gas course, we even dove the
Abyss tables as a class. For that matter, the Abyss tables are now included
in the TDI course manual. But this is not to say that I am by any means an
expert Mixed Gas Diver, because I am not. My practical inwater experience on
Mixed gas dives is very limited. I do have 16 years of diving experience,
but the majority of that is receational in nature. It is precisely because
of that, that as a company we have sought out the best minds in the industry
to contribute to Abyss. Thus far I beleive we have done a very good job in
bringing them together.

Abyss may not be perfect, and I do not claim that it is.
But, as of today we have spent $311,779.58 on making it as good as we
possibly can. We continue to write new and improved code on a daily basis,
and our customers receive periodic free upgrades to ensure they have the
latest version of our product.
