So, suddenly the ceiling of the cave caved in, trapping me at 180 ft with the bomb I was defusing...oops, that was during a previous life-I didn't make it that time. Anyway, it needn't be caves, depth, or currents that bite you. I managed to get _completely_into a dead tree, with zero vis, where only a second ago I had great vis and not a tree in sight. Branches trying to pull off my mask, remove my reg, and keep me there for a good while. I got away by _shouting loudly_at the panic that was lurking in my brainstem to go the hell away until I needed him, like when my air ran out. Actually, I had a full tank, so he was trying to arrive early. I got out (using a combo of the Wa-Wa-Watusi, the Swim, a bit of air in the BC and a death grip on my mask and mouthpiece) within 2-3 minutes. End of dive, end of tale. "I Learned About Diving From That"...that maybe the complacency of a shallow lake dive sets its own traps for the young and cocky, wheras out on the wrecks, the need for care is more obvious. Double for caves and other overhead situations. DAve Ventre Quincy, MA
