<---- Begin Included Message ----> From: giii01@in*.co* Subject: Re: over-filling & burst disks To: cavers@co*.ci*.uf*.ed* Hold on here - I never said anything about helium leaks or Wakulla or close calls. Someone is attributing some real bullshit to me. I was kidding about the helium leaking out leaving only the air because it's nonsense. The early Wakulla dives were done on air. I was not there. All I said about overfilling is that it injures the regulators and makes them subject to failure. I use Posieden first stages to keep the problem to a minimum. I understand how tanks work and fail. Thanks for the friendly info from Europe, but my point is that you could fill your tanks much higher than the rating and risk regulator failure more often that tank failure so why would you want to overfill the tanks? If you want better gas mileage do what it takes to get it. If you think I'm kidding, watch the tape Cousteau did of diving the Brittania and you will see how much gas and deco it really takes to do these dives - very little. The burst disks are a fire safety measure mostly, but are a problem if they are not significantly stronger than the pressure you are using. I use at least double, and I change them regularly. I never use my cave gear in salt water, and I have a completely diferent set of wreck and ocean gear. I even keep it at a different location so I don't get tempted to mix it up. - George Irvine <---- End Included Message ---->
