I'm moving it back to techdiver...

The reason why no one answered you questions is cuz mix is not something
you wake up one day and decide to do. You naturally grow into it (I
haven't yet and I don't think I will anytime soon). Mix is a tool not
an objective.

Here in the NE the boats do shallow stuff (200ft tops) that you can dive
on air plus nitrox and O2 for deco (at least most of us do - guess we
enjoy the bells and the serpents). Event on the Doria (250ft) many
people still dive air, which in my opinion is part of the challenge.

> Does anyone have approx cost for a mixed gas course
Lots, before mix you have to have most of the following: basic nitrox,
advanced nitrox, tech nitrox, deep air, tech deep air... Cost will vary
from $100 to $500 a piece plus boat and gas. You will spend more than
$1000 on tuition alone. That is if you are lucky and get package deals.
And if cost is a concern, keep in mind that a fill for a pair of doubles
can run over $80 depending on the mix.

bellow 200

Lots! Spare at least $5,000 if you get great deals and buy everything
right the first time (which won't happen) :)

> Average course length
2 to 3 years of good active stressful difficult diving under all kinds
of conditions.

Sorta (Tech BC, Good Drysuit, Top Regulators, Nice Steel Tanks,
Cave Lights...)

Start with Basic & Advanced Nitrox, pick a good instructor and discuss
your objectives with him/her and do a lot of reading.

Take care, Ed.

BTW: leave you snorkel home when taking the O/W.
