Hi, I've been thinking about building my own scuba-light (torch) and have a few questions regarding the commercially available MR-11 and MR-16 12 Volts halogen bulb/reflector assemblies. I've seen people recommend narrow beam while my tendency is towards a wider beam to get more coverage. I've found the above light assemblies in packages marked "narrow beam" and "medium beam" but I have no idea what is meant by these phrases. What do you people use and why ? Second, is there any reason to believe that the MR-16 lamp will last longer than the lamp in the MR-11 asumming they are of the same wattage ? Lastly, the lamps are stamped/(rated ?) 12 Volts. The lead-acids I have are gell-cells and they come off the charger with 13.8 Volts across their terminals. They drop a bit in storage but can deliver quite a bit of charge before dropping below 13 Volts. In light of this I do worry about overvoltage unless I pluck the voltage down a bit. Does anyone have any thoughs on this issue ? thanks, john
