From: ddrake01 Jason said that he couldn't find a boat that had O2 or would even let him bring it on unless they were non-divers. Ladders and other equipment were shoddy, etc. Well, I guess you have shit poor luck for a location 'cause we got some good boats around here. The boat I'm going out on tomorrow has the shoulder high welding tank of O2 with demand regs. Some boats I've been on have two. We have a well educated (relatively) diving public formed of lots of well educated people in the big-3 country. Nitrox is welcome now on most boats 'cause. We have a bottom that will help prevent high PPO2 if you can figure your mix right... In Moorehead City North Carolina, my club was on an Olympus Diver Center boat that handled an embolism and helicopter air lift in-route like it was normal protocol. You can bet they had O2. We screen our charter boats. They generally die a comercial death after they screw clubs. Word gets around like now *******DON'T DIVE WITH TRANS MICHIGAN CHARTERS ******* They wouldn't even throw a life ring out to a guy caught in current. They didn't have a line attached to it and were afraid to loose it, nevermind the diver! So yes, there are always the lousy ladders and stupid broken back captains with a cabin boy along who's been beat to much. However, they only get one shot of our money if at all. The natural selection process rules, especially if you help it along. My club has developed a questionaire that you can use over the phone to qualify a boat for your purposes if anyone is interested. It is lengthy, but so should be your life line and surface support resources. Better luck next time Jason --DD David B.
