does anybody know if the numbers for the commercial models are publically available, and if so where? The standard Buhlman numbers for ZHL-16,12,etc are in his book; they are also available in the technical manual describing the Aladin Pro (special order item). I can post them, if need be. The coeffs (the Buhlman concept of M-value) for computers which use the Buhlman model (all computers based on the UWATEC chip, such as the US Divers Monitor and Aladin's) are not published or available at all, to the best of my knowledge. I have tried to get them from several places. (The computer manufacturers use different numbers and scaled-back version of the algorithm -- UWATEC uses only 6 compartments, and puts 'fudge factors' or "safety factors" into the numbers, to make the computers more conservative than the table. If they used the numbers straight, the computers would likely display much less conservative numbers than the tables even on simple square profile dives.) The computers also twist the Buhlman algorithm in other ways, for conservatism. For instance, UWATEC runs a slower surface interval "clock" (less credit for SI) than straight Buhlman. I think the UWATEC chip actually runs the desaturation as a linear process when depth is 0fsw, but I have not been able to confirm this. -frank -- fhd@pa*.co* | Do or do not; there is no try. 1 917 992 2248 | -- Yoda 1 718 746 7061 |
