Rich, The article by Hamilton, et al, was presented at the EUBS meeting in 1985 (I think the year is right). They found no significant difference at depth between air and nitrox mixtures. They stated that oxgyen, based on it's lipid solubility, should be twice as narcotic as nitrogen, but in the study they found it to be roughly equi-potent. Hypothesis was that since oxygen was metabolically active, that some was metabolized, thus reducing the dissolved partial pressures seen at the active site (wherever the hell that is, who every figures that out will get the Nobel prize in medicine).
