On the subject of IQ and narcosis, Aren't we taking this whole issue a bit too far? In my experience the IQ test means nothing, in relation to intelligence. Any subject faced with the type of questions posed in such a test can easily 'learn' how to do them. With this in mind the correlation between narcosis and IQ may simply be that some people have 'learned' how to cope with its effects better than others. Although we may be able to 'cope' with narcosis let's not forget that we cannot change our physiology and the effect of nitrogen at depth depends on this more so than brains!!! I shall get off my soap boax now and get back to work! Cheers, Ali Lawrie. Dept of Human Anatomy and Cell Biology, University of Liverpool, Liverpool, UK. aml@li*.ac*.uk*
