<---- Begin Included Message ----> Return-Path: <jr@op*.co*> From: <giii01@In*.Co*> Date: Mon, 5 Jun 95 04:39:36 PDT Subject: Re: Open Discussion Harold GArtner and I are on the same page on this one, despite a bumpy start (my fault). There is an immistakeable influence of the "record setting", "I can handle deep air", "depth for its own sake" mentality in this accidnet that Harold reported to us. It is unfortuneate that divers can't just go enjoy what appears to be a beautifull dive (the matterhorn) . Done right, this should be piece of cake, kind of like us dropping down into Wakulla, and then coming back up without doing the mile of cave that follows. When >put in that perspective, it becomes pretty obvious that >there is some real nonsense going on out there. Whether anyone likes it or not, I feel it is my responsability to point this out. Let's get focused and help each other make this a the safe and fun sport that it should be. The only record I want to set is the most dives without getting killed. - George <---- End Included Message ----> George, You're getting better. Unfortunately there is nonsence going on everywhere, not just out here. We need to continue to emphisize the need for proper training. We also need to analyze accidents that do occur in a straight forward, professional manner (just as is done in aviation), in order that we, as well as others, can learn from there mistakes. T.J.
