I have had experience with both the Dive-Rite walkman and a walkman I have in
an Ikelite housing (#4810). Both have worked well.

The Dive-Rite unit has the benefit of an external volume control.
Unfortunately it is not an auto-reverse machine and I find this to be an
important feature for longer play times. Its small "bonephone" speaker is
okay but somewhat uncomfortable to wear.

The unit I housed is auto-reverse and there is ample room for additional
batteries. No external volume control but I find I want the machine at full
volume anyway. The housing is fitted with a March/Marine female connector
that I plug into my Heliox-18 band mask. The sound is great even when I'm
wearing the dry "turbo" hood of a Viking suit. When not using a band mask, I
have taken one of the speakers (DSI #515-005)from the mask and hooked it
directly to a March/Marine male connector (DSI #505-047). I velcro this to
the outside of the wet "nautica" hood of a Viking suit and the sound is quite
acceptable. At least as good as the "bonephone". The speaker is *not*
waterproof but doesn't need to be. Although it does need to be rinsed with
fresh H2O and dried after the dive.

Music and audio books have been a *very* welcome addition to long hours of
welding and deco stops.

I'd be extremely surprised if you can snake a speaker wire up the neck seal of
a dry suit without causing a pretty good leak.
