	From personal experience, I know that DEET attacks rubber tool 
handles, plastic car door handles, plastic radio and electronic equipment
cases, rubber & latex (might have been PVC) gloves, certain wood finishes,..... 
A friend of mine saw a fellow technician melt a hand print into a helicopter
bubble. Lucky they weren't left permanently on the barrens after that.

I'd be really unhappy just having this stuff in use anywhere on the boat. 
Just having one of the deck crew assisting you to dress could mung your
zipper.
