JU>We will be diving the Doria on the Wahoo, June 29-July 3. One of our
JU>group is very cold natured and is wondering what sort of temps we may
JU>encounter. I know this may vary greatly, but I'm looking for some sort of
JU>general idea. She is planning on getting the super heavy undergarments if
JU>it seems like it may be really cold.

On the bottom expect temps in the low to mid 40's (F), surface will
probably be between mid 50's to low 60's but they've been as high
as 68 one year I was there.

JU>Another thing I would like to know is what kind of space is aboard the
JU>Wahoo for storing cylinders. We are currently trying to figure out the
JU>logistics of He and O2 cylinders. I would be interested in hearing from
JU>people who have been on the Wahoo. Are gases readily available? What
JU>about renting cylinders on site? Currently we are planning to ship
JU>everything. The freight cost is going to be high. The more we know in
JU>advance the better prepared we can be. Comparing notes with others seems
JU>the best way of doing this. I *have* heard good things about the cooking
JU>aboard. :) So food shouldn't be a problem. Someone (I can't find the
JU>post) told me that the conditions aboard are Spartan. That could mean a
JU>lot of things. Info/comments would be appreciated.

There is not going to be a lot of space aboard if Steve packs
the usual 20+ passengers/crew. You will want to check with him
to see what he will let you bring aboard. If you want to get gas
locally check with either Scuba Shoppe (516-289-5555) or Island Scuba
(516-546-2030). They can both get you gas for your trip and some
other local shops as well. If you deal with a bulk supplier they
might have an affiliate on Long Island and can give you a better deal.
The biggest inconvenience you'll face will be lack of space due to
the number of people on that size vessel. Also, rumors have stated
that crew (or special guests) get to dive before paying passengers,
so you might want to inquire about that, as well.

I'll be out on another boat (Sea Hunter) right before and right
after your trip, maybe I'll see you in Montauk.
