---------- From: Mullins, Robert To: techdiver Subject: NITROX MACHINES Date: Friday, April 28, 1995 4:44PM Sorry if this is a duplicate post.....I sent it a few days ago when there were problems with the server. <Original text follows> A recent article in Sport Diver magazine (May/June 95, p74) says that at the '95 DEMA trade show, Dick Rutkowski had a turnkey system for generating nitrox using a gas scrubber technology, rather than blending O2 and air. The system was touted as being the technology that would enable dive shops to provide safe, cheap nitrox "to the masses." According to the article, output from the system can be fed directly into a standard SCUBA compressor meeting certain basic cleaning requirements. It can be programmed to produce any mix with between 8% and 40% O2, within 0.5% accuracy. Are we that close? Should I as a recreational (future tech??) diver be interested.....? no, let me rephrase that.....I as a recreational diver AM interested, based on the limited amount I have read about the benefits of nitrox......I'd like to solicit comments/opinions from the group......I expect a certain amount of "this is not for everybody....I am a professional.....don't try this in your home." But really, this sounds good.....what do you folks think???? Bob Mullins Howard Hughes Medical Institute mullinsr@hq*.hh*.or* 301.215.8636
