This is a 2-part message. The first part is addressed to everybody, so please rea d and respond. The second part, which the rest of you can ignore, is a couple of suggestions addressed just to those who, like me, have products they would like t o market on the boards. PART ONE -- Would it be cool, in messages to all the subscribers, if advertisers simply wrote in the SUBJECT slot at the beginning of such a message: ADVERT: (des cribe/name product here)? And then wrote a one-line blurb which interested reader s could follow up? That wouldn't take up too much room, and as you scan down, you could nuke 'em right away, or read them and follow up as desired? Also, would subscribers mind adding a short indicator line to your signature that says either "ACCEPTS advertising" or "NO Advertising" , giving undercapitalized capitalists such as myself a chance to reach those who would not be offended? It' s not difficult; allows those who are not interested some protection; and would surely take much less time to add to your signature than it does to draw those amazing keyboard illustrations. Please indicate your opinion to me; I'll compile and report. SUBJECT ADVERT. CONCEPT : OK STICK IT SIGNATURE INDICATOR CONCEPT: WILL DO STICK IT END PART ONE To other NET marketers: The NET is too good a system, and too far-reaching, to miss for marketing purpose s, but the danger of alienating the rest of the electronic community is very impo rtant to consider. I have a couple suggestions for marketing on the NET without wearing out your wel come and screwing the pooch in the process. -- The scuba board on AmericaOnline has places where people are posting to buy/sell. Use those instead of discussion boards. -- Use "aquanaut Classifieds." I have in the past; very useful -- I recommend it; will do so again with the next update of my catalog. -- Sometimes, when a new subscriber logs on and says "I am looking for all kinds of info -- send me anything" , I'll post my catalog to that individual -- with so me encouraging words of welcome. So far I've gotten no combustive results from that. Christopher A.
