Death rate on the Halcyon? Keep dreaming. Your Buddy Inspiration stats are about like saying "show me the percentage of people who smoke that get lung cancer", which would be a similar number, to which the correct answer is, virtually 100% of people who get lung cancer smoke". People like you , who can't dive OC in the first place and have now found the brave new world of CCRs, are among the best examples of why these things should be avoided. If you don't get it at all, you aren't going to get it with more toys. -----Original Message----- From: christi5@ix*.ne*.co* [mailto:christi5@ix*.ne*.co*] Sent: Wednesday, March 12, 2003 12:29 PM To: Steve Schultz; christi5@ix*.ne*.co* Cc: Chris Elmore; techdiver@aquanaut.com Subject: Re: Re: Re: Inspirational I believe sales numbers are over 4000, so that would be less than 0.5%? By contrast, what is the death rate on the Halcyon rebreather? Is OC safer than CCRs at 500 fsw? Also, let's consider just technical diving, not overall scuba. What is the death rate for OC tech diving? Cheers -------Original Message------- From: Steve Schultz <se2schul@st*.ma*.uw*.ca*> Sent: 03/12/03 02:54 PM To: christi5@ix*.ne*.co* Subject: Re: Re: Inspirational > > From what I understand, AP valves doesn't have the exact number of inspiration users, but estimates it to be between 2000-6000. There have been about 20 deaths. That means that 20/2000*100 = 1%. So up to 1% of inspiration users die. That is MUCH higher than OC scuba. Of course you take a risk leaving your house in the morning. What's your point? Driving a car is risky, so why would you want to do something like blindfold yourself to make it riskier? This is analogous to making the already risky sport of scuba even riskier by using a CC rebreather instead of just the standard OC gear. If 1% of automobile drivers died in car accidents, I'd walk, or hope the goverment would outlaw it. ss On Wed, 12 Mar 2003 christi5@ix*.ne*.co* wrote: > Hi Chris, > Just curious, what is the accident rate in these things? > > Also, don't you think you play the odds whenever you leave your house in the morning? > > Cheers > > > -------Original Message------- > From: Chris Elmore <chelmore@be*.ne*> > Sent: 03/12/03 10:01 AM > To: techdiver@aquanaut.com > Subject: Re: Inspirational > > > > > Bill, > There are those people who trust electronics in a moist environment to > deliver the proper gas and there are those of us that don't.
