since I is gettin a lot of questions about my deep dives, since I am the only one doin it, I thought I wood repost the info on the video I be have for sale on my website. it shows all the details of our deep, deep dive off FL, all the intencive safe plannin' and stuff like that, as well as the divin itself is. and for all you smartasses out there, yes, the sand at 490' looks a lot different and all than sand at 100' -- but you will have to by my video to see!! i is including my true dive report for ya'll so you will be bying my video - "Diving Dummer than Dumm" DVD, only $22.95 US. Here that report from that dive... VBTech Deep Dive in Flo'ida On over 2 years ago ah was ax jest how deep c'd ah pow'ful dive wif a goal in mind, cuss it all t' tarnation. ah nevah pow'ful ponnered thet quesshun befo'e, all th' deep wrecks thet ah had been pursueyng had already been identified an' offered only th' challenge of th' depph safely along wif th' joy ah git fum wreck divin'. Af'er 2 plan trips t'FL t'dive an unknown wreck in 460fsw had been kinceled due t'weather an' current, Rick Atkins an' ah finely made th' dive on March 1, 2001 wif a huge amount of suppo't, which ah will detail, ah reckon. Th' site which sits in 460-470fsw by bottom machine(th' boat depph finner) was foun' by a local commercial fisherman sevahal years ago. Capp. John-Boy a life long commercial fisherman an' expert on th' local currents had foun' this hyar wreck. Shet mah mouth! ah cannot tell yo' his full name o' boat as he does not be hankerin' t'be follered t'his fishin' sites. On over th' years th' tenshuns thet cuzd fisherman an' divahs t'be at odds were bein' put aside by some local dive Cappains. Offen tellyng th' fisherman whut they see on th' dives, so th' fisherman kin arn a livin' a li'l easier. Fisherman by nature does not give up their sites as thet is whar they muss hoof it to ketch th' fish an' does not be hankerin' it on over fished, cuss it all t' tarnation. On one fishin' trip Capp. John-Boy had an objeck hung on his grapnel when he brought it up, though he does not knows whut it was on account o' it fell off th' hook at th' boat an' he only got a quick look at it, then sank back down, as enny fool kin plainly see. Th' objeck havin' stirred Capp. John-Boy's interess cuzd him t'ax mah friend Capp. Leo c'd divahs hoof it thet deep an' did he knows ennyone thet'd. It is fine known thet Capp. Leo does not helter-skelter technical divin' trips, but on special occashuns he has done it fo' sartin divahs, once t'take th' WKPP t'search fo' th' 3 missin' divahs in th' WPB accident an' all other trips haf been fo' me. His willin'ness t'take me on these dives comes fum sevahal trips in which ah came wif other rec. divahs an' he nevah pow'ful knowed ennythin' about me an' judged me on whut he sar. Though ah stayed wifin th' boat rules all th' time, he knowed ah did not like reefs. He is the dawgoned-est safety cornsensus Capp. ah have evah see. On over time he has come t'knows me an' we trest etch others judgment, which lead him t'ax me thet quesshun. He then told me about th' wreck an' plans were talked on over, ah do not take these deep dives mighty lightly, when th' slightess thin' goes wrong divahs die at this hyar depph, thet list of names is long, ah doesn't be hankerin' mah name on it. ah unnerstan' thet ennythin' kin happen, ah do th' bess ah can t'ensure them thet is thar does not feel thet ennythin' is their fault sh'd ennythin' happen, as enny fool kin plainly see. Havin' picked th' date fo' th' dive, th' plan was wawked on, as enny fool kin plainly see. ah axed Rick Atkins t'dive wif me, as ah no'mally does to does th' deeper depphs. Th' VBtech team was told of th' dive an' sevahal stepped up t'he'p does suppo't. We also planned in other dives t'th' Skycliff an' Hydro Atlannic on March 2, then others went t'spend a week on th' dive vessel "Sea Fevah" an' 4 of us stayed t' dive wif Capp. Leo an extry day t't'other unknown wreck at 70f' an' came home. Rick Atkins an' Gary San'erson drove down a day early t'prepare fo' th' dive. Abner Widen, Billy Joe Ripley (who jest completed his full cave fum Steve Berman), Ike Bullock, Mary Lou Hite, an' mahse'f drove all night t'git t'FL in time fo' th' dive at noon on th' 1st. Capp. Leo had arranged fo' Capp. John-Boy t'hook th' wreck an' haf a ball on th' line he uses as a marker when he fishes it. Eff'n th' current was not strong we'd hoof it down th' line, eff'n it was we'd hoof it up current an' drop on it. Capp Leo also had Roger Harty a local EMT an' divah on board t'monito' us befo'e,durin', an' af'er th' dive. Roger, who also dives, did a great job as safety divah at th' 20f' stop as he stayed mighty close t'monito' us as we were on 02, thet is whar ah believe th' risk is th' highess on these dives. He also made th' chamber aware of th' dive. Fellad Stewart, th' DM fo' th' boat also he'ped ease th' stress wif his playful hoomah. John-Boy Fine a divin' writer was on board t'covah th' dive. A briefin' was held on over top "Dive Shop II", it covahed all th' postibilities an' th' plan, as enny fool kin plainly see. Etch member of th' team (both divahs an' suppo't) was intrydooced an' stated whut their tax fo' th' dive was. A complete review of th' dive plan, gas mixes, deco mixes, gas management, safety procedures, corntingincies, an' time sequences were covahed, cuss it all t' tarnation. Capp. John-Boy departed t'go hook th' wreck, we had our gear loaded an' departed sho'tly af'er him, dawgone it. Capp. John-Boy hooked th' wreck jest like he said an' it was clear thar was a strong current, Ike Bullock tested th' current t'see eff'n we c'd hoof it down th' line, he c'd not does it in a sin'le tank, so we c'd not wif stages an' doubles. Capp. John-Boy had told us at th' briefin' thet th' site sometimes has a no'th current on top an' a south current on th' bottom, dawgone it. This hyar w'd be bad as we c'd not hit th' wreck by droppin' on it up current an''d only result in a bounce dive. Th' current was plotted by GPS an' sight of drop was planned fo' a dexcent time of 5-6 mins t'th' bottom, ah had thunk we'd be thar in about 4.5 mins, but chose not t' use thet time so not t'miss on over th' wreck an' hafta swim into th' current t'git t'th' wreck at thet depph sh'd it take longer t'git thar. Capp. Leo set us up fo' th' drop, Capp. John-Boy maintained his boat on over th' wreck an' wif th' ball jest behind him gave us th' straight line sight we needed fo' th' drop. DIVE! Fry mah hide! DIVE! Fry mah hide! DIVE! Fry mah hide! was th' call an' we hit th' water, Rick lead on account o' he was pushin' a video camera, ah kepp an eye on him on account o' thet is whut sh'd be done when a camera is involved an' Ike follered us down t'130f'. At 2 mins an' 200f' ah made mah gas switch as Rick watched, ah did th' same fo' him at 220f'. We pushed down, th' dexcent rate was increasin', at 300f' it became mighty dark, at 400f' it got mighty cold, cuss it all t' tarnation. We started t'put th' brakes on, ah past mah plan depph of 450f', 460f', 470f', at 483f' ah leveled off an' Rick touched th' bottom at 490f', we had t'go t'back up tables. As most sh'd knows thar is a 3% erro' in th' UWATEC, Beuchat, an' other fresh water calibrated depph gauges we use when in SW, ah leave them in as a safety facko' fo' these deep dives. Wif th' depph readin' of 490f' it is pow'ful only 475f'. Thar was no current at all on th' bottom, ah knowed we had lan'ed up current of th' wreck, 4 mins t'th' bottom, faster than ah thunk. Fo' th' next 4-5 mins Rick filmed as ah looked aroun' fo' th' wreck, ah came on over t'him an' called th' dive, at 7-8 mins BT we started our assent. At aroun' 400f' ah c'd see bait fish in th' distance, at 270f' we deployed Rick's Halcyon lif' bag wif mah reel, ah reckon. ah was told th' bag hit th' surface an' then sank, cuzd a bit of stress on th' boat, they had no way of knowin' we were fine. ah knowed th' bag sank an' let th' line slide through mah fingers as we corntinued doin' our 1 min stops. Abner dropped down on our bubbles, wif Gary jest behind him, t'check us out an' we resent th' bag up at 170f' an' th' thin' sank agin, th' pressure relief valve'd not reseat once th' gas expan'ed in th' bag, acco'din' t' th' code o' th' heells! Abner scootered a permanent line on over t'us wif a float ball on it fo' us t'deco on, Jon lines were deployed t'prevent us fum sinkin' sh'd we pass out fo' some reason, as enny fool kin plainly see. Abner an' Gary had extry gas wif them sh'd we need it. We finished our deco wif all divahs takin' turn t'monito' us an' removin' used stages, th' suppo't team delivahed our 50/50 an' 02 t'us, th' runnin' joke was thet it been the dawgoned-est docoomnted deco evah done, as most of time thar were at least 4 divahs in th' water. We boarded th' boat "Deeper" wif Capp. Leo an' haided fo' th' dock. Shet mah mouth! Th' dive was much t'trimenjus t'keep quiet thet mo'nin' an' wo'd had spread aroun' th' dock, as th' boat roun'ed "Two Jedidiahs" at th' end of th' marina cheers c'd be heard fum th' patrons fo' our safe return, as enny fool kin plainly see. ah was unaware thet no one had evah tried a wreck dive thet deep thar befo'e, which kind of surprised me. Back at th' dock, ah talked t'Capp John-Boy as he was mighty curious t'whut we sar an' bottom corndishun. ah told him whut we sar an' when ah menshuned th' bait fish he said were right at th' wreck, thet he was markin' bait fish jest in front of th' wreck, our bag had surface right on over th' wreck th' fust time. We all dived th' wrecks "Skycliff" 200f' an' "Hydro Atlannic" 170f' th' next day wif a 3 hour SI, ah foun' th' "Hydro Atlannic" a mighty nice dive an' will does thet one agin fo' sho'nuff.
