Are you one of these instructors who points students along the right path? Do you take novice divers who express an interest in technical diving under your wing, show them how to do it right? Do you lecture, write articles, or do anything else to let people know that techdiving can be done safely, but that doing it safely requires certain careful preparation? Perhaps, if more of the experienced divers did these things, there might be fewer of the type of divers you're complaining about... ******* My 2 Cents worth - on the +ve side -> Chris does do something about this - Last week I attended a Seminar ran by Chris and Martin Smith on tech diving Equipment considerations in which they discussed/taught/disclosed/shared info/etc on their own personal thoughts/recommendations/considerations on the equipment requirements that any one should be thinking about before pushing the boundry from Sport diving (what ever that is) This was outside any of any Recognised Industry available courses and definatly was a "novice under the wing type thing " - was that a Zeagle wing or a Diverite wing ??? :-) On the -ve side General concern that we already have lots of complicated to administer (as in this grade is needed before that grade, unless you do this then that bit is exempt, unless its a Thursday, when every one needs to do this bit as well) training already Breaking down / modularising the could be seen as excuse to charge more. (Please no I don't want to start that one again) Its a very fine line between making it too difficult for "techdiving wannabes" to get into and learn the concepts safely to (1) scaring them away completly and thus the expertise dies with this generation of experts (hopefully of old age) (2) driving them underground to do it without the proper training / guidance Now how can I get that Chicken get any closer to the middle of the road ???
