Subject: Re: Seals for older Haskels??
To: techdiver@aquanaut.com

If you are talking about Haskel's "standard" 5-3/4" two cylinder boosters (you
probably are), the only seals that the older (pre-1980) units used that are not
currently used, or are not "off the shelf" o-rings or backups is Haskel part
number 17209-10, the piston rod seal. I don't know if it is still available or
not. The good news is that it is not a critical part. Even when new ones are
installed, it is common to have some air drive leakage from the air drive
section to atmosphere through the vent holes on the bottom of the castings.
This is usually not noticed because of the noise and air exhaust that occurs
when the thing is running.

The poppets and seats used in the pre-1983 cylinder heads are sometimes
troublesome, but were not included in seals kits anyway. These can be
remachined, sometimes with basic tools like an a electric drill, sandpaper and
polishing compound (a lathe with a tool post mounted grinder makes the job much
easier though).

The Florida place you're talking about is probaly "Innerspace Research", owned
by Ed Hall. You could also get the local Haskel sales person to refer you to
some dealers that might have remaining inventory. The other option is to buy
the parts "piecemeal", not as a kit. It doesn't cost any more and the only
downside is making sure you have everything you need before you start a rebuild
project.

I hope this helps.
