Paul,
As you said, equipment is to low bidder here also. IIFC, you can get on =
the "team" with just a OW cert. on some of them. No provision is made =
for even nitrox let alone helium based mixes. (only one place maybe two =
to get that, and they're privately owned). You'd think that with the two =
local lakes.....one 210ft max depth and the other over 500 ft ( Lakes =
George and Champlain) that they would have a higher standard for the =
divers saftey.

John

It sounds like the training public saftey divers in your area receives =
may be as minimal as the training they receive in mine. I've got a =
friend who is on a Sherriff's Dept. dive team and all of their equipment =
went to low-bidder. Most of them are only AOW trained and their =
in-service training is just a matter of getting wet.

It's really a shame. These guys are training to handle situations =
that most of us never want to encounter and will be expected to enter =
the water in environmental conditions that could be hazardous to their =
health. They sure as hell deserve a lot better training than they seem =
to get.

Know about it........from what I can find out......exceeded their =
training, and equipment. They were members of a Fire Department rescue =
team......... diving in an area that was 150-170. Sounded like using =
just single 80's
