It appears that this fray has gone beyond the productive & become mud-slinging. 1. None of us were there except those reporting on the dives. 2. They have candidly reported on what they perceived as transpired. It is possible that all of that is not 100% accurate - perceptions vary. 3. What is of import is that unsavory situations were handled w/o morbidity or mortality. 4. Those involved were & continue to B willing to share, a quality that is not necessarily present in the diving community overall. 5. It is totally irrelevant that we agree or disagree with their methods - its is their approach, they extricated themselves from the jam. 6. I am sure all will agree that it is incontravertible that no technique/dive is risk or deficiency free. 7. Deco techniques vary based on depths, surface support, dive plans & a multitude of factors, yet they R based on 2 basic approaches - tethered/attached deco & drifting deco. The latter is not the preferred in NAtl wreck diving as currents tends to B manageable & boats tend to B not 'live'. Anchored boats & tethered/attached deco can become trying under inclement sea conditions. Techniques like jon lines will ameliorate some of the issues, but not mitigate all. 8. It is up to the individual diver(s) to make their dive plan & diving strategy decisions & execute them w/o expecting input from others. Sea conditions will - should - dictate diving/deco strategies. 9. Any help/input received should B considered a boon, not a requirement. Captains & mates have a responsibility for the safe transport of divers to the dive sites. It should B obvious that that responsibility does not extend to dive planning, strategy selection or underwater surveille of the divers. Todd, Allyson & the Daltons - thnx for sharing your experiences. Without a doubt we all learned from it & will certainly evaluate our strategies in light of it.
