Looking like it sank yesterday, the U.S. Coast Guard Cutter Mesquite, which ran aground in 1989, and sank in 110 feet of water off Keweenaw Point in Lake Superior, is unusual in many ways. With many penetration opportunities at a relatively shallow depth, a diver can find a photocopy machine, a water fountain (we call this a bubbler in the Midwest), a cold drinks dispenser (coke machine), a surfboard (huh?), file cabinets, drawers and shelves with tools strewn about, kitchen utensils still sitting in the galley, and much more, all preserved in 38-degree water, zebra-mussel free, with 30+ feet of visibility. Have a look at some photos, recent (mine) and past (not mine, better), and see for yourselves: http://uscgcmesquite.com/content/photo_content.shtml http://www.hoofers.org/scuba/Gallery/kew_02/kew_index.html MJB __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
