Hopefully, you're being better advised with respect to diving matters.

All that's needed was to get an International Driver's License (so that U.S.
DOT personnel can READ it), then take your written test (after spending a
night of intense studying over the official book) and an hour later, after
paying your license fee, you have a NJ Driver's License.  We've gone through
this numerous times with transferred personnel.
