Hi Mike, Along with you, I cannot agree with the opinion that shooting a lift bag for deco or for signaling purposes, is not a worthwhile skill to master. In fact I think it is not only worthwhile but absolutely necessary if any form of open water technical diving is planned. But from the message, I don't think you can say anything negative or make any snide remarks about TDI. The instructor is obviously requiring the students to demonstrate the skill. And I believe this is as it should be. Take care and dive safe, Scott Some weeks it's just not worth the effort to gnaw through the restraints and scramble up out of the pit. Here's a guy that get's on here and argues with everyone because of his superior knowledge, so I thought I'd share with you exactly how little this guy actually knows. It appears that he is in his TDI tech diving class, and posted this report about his class: From Dr. Black: Of all the useless skills taught in technical diver training, this has to rank as numero uno. The idea of inflating a lift bag to perform drifting deco is, where I dive in the Great Lakes, useless. Maybe you ocean divers are doing this lots, but it just doesn't happen around here, and if it ever did happen, the boat captain who would have to chase after you would be one unhappy skipper. On the other hand, using a lift bag(s) to raise a heavy object is a skill that does get used, and has practical value. But shooting a lift bag, as in technical diver training, is something you do once or twice as a student, then never again as a diver. Cheers from Icediver (stepping down from the soapbox). Sorta makes you really wonder what they hell they teach at TDI, huh??? >> -- Send mail for the `techdiver' mailing list to `techdiver@aquanaut.com'.
