I said I would update the list as we learned more about the ride-ability or reliability of the new style HDPE Gavins. So here is a short recap: *Customer Service*: We have done everything in our power to act like apes :-) and these things are all still running very strong, and if I told you ALL of the stories on how we have mistreated these, like using the cables to get our welding certificate or doing every thing possible to get these to break, it would take me far too long to type and be embarrassing to boot. The up shot is, George has spent an enormous amount of time with me/us and has been *far more patient than most could possibly believe*. He has FAR exceeded anything I could have hoped for in terms of customer service! Thanks to all his time, I can now take these motors apart and more importantly, properly tuned and back together! Believe me this is a big deal, as is a costly journey from Florida to California. In addition, George has shared a ton of information on where to source parts, such as where to get a $5.00 reed or $1.99 charging connector. Most MFGs would NEVER dream of doing this! FIVE STARS ***** to George. Saltwater HDPE weighting: Shorts: We have two bulkhead configurations (A) White base and gray top, (B) White base and top. Blown (white material) and PVC (gray material). The white is far more buoyant. (A) White base and Gray top 1.5 to 1.7 lbs (B) White base and top 3 3.5 lbs Longs 33ah: We have the style with three PVC (gray) bulkheads and we are using 4 lbs. Note: Because of the low vis and surf we prefer to have them just positive at the start of the dive. These become neutral to slightly negative at the end of the dive at 10. The scooters ballast will vary based on the MFG of the battery and even the BATCH within the same MFG. No two batteries weigh exactly the same. Ride: Four tube sizes are available we only have the Shorts(18ah) and the Standard-long(33ah). In addition George has a 26ah body and a 42ah body. Both styles are VERY easy to ride. The 33ah might even be a bit easier ;-) In my opinion (Im not an expert) the 33ah takes a bit more effort during the deco stop (not under power) to move while the shorts take just a flick of your wrist to move. But we ARE splitting hairs. Closing: These have opened up a lot of new areas for beach diving, reduced our dependency on boats (Ok, a Gavin and a boat are even more fun :-)) and in general been just a kick in the pants !!!!!!!
