The Nova Tech monthly meeting was forced outdoors for the month of May given that the restaurant was torn down. Rather than hold it at the vacant lot where the restaurant once stood, it was decided to get folks into the water, or at least closer to it. Millbrook Quarry (AKA; Haymarket Quarry if you dove it in the 70's) was chosen as the closest location available. Plans were to help folks with their gear configuration, give an overview of the DIR Fundamentals Class that Todd, Allyson and Dave just completed and then get in the water and practice. The first of us arrived at the quarry at approximately 10 am with the rest arriving by 11 am. In attendance were Bob Boling, Scott Cadle, Stella Covre, Tim James, Alan Russel, Dave Whittle, Todd Clagett, Allyson Clagett and Dave Dalton. Dave Sun and John Mason stopped by as well but weren't able to dive with us. Kathy Lewis stopped by to offer "alternatives" to the DIR approach. Now I know why you should always carry duct tape in your tool kit. Just kidding Kathy (sort of). As planned we worked with folks making changes to their gear and did an overview about the DIR Fundamentals class. PLEASE NOTE: Nova Tech is sponsoring a DIR Fundamentals class in the DC area in late June. Please refer to the Nova Tech web page for info: http://home.earthlink.net/~toddclagett/NovaTech/ Click on "Upcoming Dives" and the "DIR Fundamentals" for complete info. Get your name in quickly if you have an interest in the class. After helping folks make changes we headed to the water and commandeered one of the platforms for buoyancy/trim control practice. We worked on OOA drills, valve drills, shooting lift bags and the like for about 40 minutes, came up and talked about it and problems folks were having and then went down and did it again for another 30 minutes or so. Viz was 15 ft and water temp was 58 at depth, but who cares, this was practice for "Game Day". We finished up, packed up and headed home. Allyson will be posting some pictures on the site so be sure to visit and take a look. Time and location of the June meeting is TBD. Visit the Nova Tech site for updated information. http://home.earthlink.net/~toddclagett/NovaTech/index.htm "You just can't show up for "Game Day", you've got to go to practice to be ready!" __________________________________________________ Do You Yahoo!?
