Silting from fin wash is certainly a big hazard in wreck (or cave)
penetration, especially for untrained divers. There are several propulsion
techniques used in cave and wreck diving which minimize silting. These
include the modified flutter kick, shuffle kick, frog kick, pushing off the
ceiling, and pull-and-glide. Of these techniques, the only ones which would
work reasonably well without fins are pushing off the ceiling, and
pull-and-glide. On the other hand, a trained and competent diver using the
appropriate propulsion technique will produce minimal silt with fins on.
