Terrence is a good guy, but he lied to my face and told me he was a SEAL too. Even worse, he told me he was a SEAL when I was talking to him about an abusive ex-boyfriend of mine who had claimed to be a SEAL - Terrence told me what to ask him to prove that he wasn't a SEAL (Terrence knew how to lie about it properly, apparently). It wasn't until a year and a half later that I found out for certain that both of them were lying, courtesy of someone from the website that busts phoney SEALs. I took my cave class right before Trey and I started dating. Actually, it was due to the planned cave class that I met Trey - I emailed Trey with a drysuit question (a drysuit that I was ordering specifically for the cave class and subsequent cave diving - unfortunately the drysuit didn't show up in time and I had to take the class in a wetsuit). I had already paid for the class and was scheduled to begin about a week and a half after I wrote Trey that first email. Terrence certified me, because he was all I knew at the time, but Trey (Mr. Irvine) is the one who taught me to cave dive. Every skill I now use I learned from Trey. My first dive after cave class, and the 150-200 cave dives following that were all with Mr. Irvine, with very few exceptions. The first thing Trey did was teach me how to do right all the stuff that I learned how to do wrong from Terrence, and fix all the gear that Terrence had messed up for me. Terrence is very cool in the water, very skilled as a diver, and a very nice guy, but a severe stroke when it comes to the deep air bullshit (which is really over the edge of stupidity) and the gear (which is horrifying - the first thing he did is put suicide clips all over my cave gear and it only went downhill from there), and he is a pathetic liar for the SEAL crap - that was just a really dumb mistake for him to make and I have no idea why he started that when he could have just spoken of whatever involvement he had with them, if he wanted to mention it at all. The reason I did not say something before is because I have nothing against Terrence as a person, despite his strokery and lies.
