Wow, I really enjoy stories about the history of scuba. Even tho' the techniques and systems described are no longer practical or necessary, I think there is a lot to be learned from looking at what the pioneers did. Perhaps someone will hear an old story, recognize a new technology that could be applied today, and come up with something "new" that will benefit us all. It also tickles me no end to hear about the gutsy "just do it" attitude that the pioneers had -- no orgs., no regulations, no precursors, no books, no classes and certs., -- just imagination and desire. I'm not condoning outlaw diving -- it's just that we would all be bowling if someone in the past had not said "why the hell not?" and tried out a new idea. In most cases, planning and caution were applied liberally, -- and we are the thankful recipients of the successful results. Christopher A.
