anyone tell me where I can find a paper on this or at least more
information.

Rod,
Let me clarify this. A friend of mine (who, I understand, has already
contacted you privately) and I used to play chess together all the time and
were pretty evenly matched. During a DAN FAD study we played several games
inside the chamber (both of us) at a depth of 40' (12m). The results were
that we were still pretty evenly matched (surprise!) What we both *did*
notice was an inability to plan more than one or two moves ahead. I would
make a move then daydream as he thought and then made his move. By then, I
would look at the board like I was seeing it for the first time but would
wonder where the hell I was going with that last move. Double blind study
published for peer review? No, but definitely a degradation of higher brain
function.

where he was taught that "with training" you can learn to overcome Narcosis
and it's effect on task loading. He made repetitive dives to 200 feet on air
using independent doubles an switching to EAN40 at 160 fet for an
ascent/deco gas. He truly belives that he is one of the lucky ones that
doesn't get narcosis.

educate him.

OK, I've had a standing bet since 1996 for all those idiots that think they
are good on deep air. Here it is:
One game of chess at 200', I'm on mix, you're on air. $1000- winner take
all.
I don't care if you grab Gary Kasperov and run him through the Hal Watts
idiot/money separator course. So I'll sit back and wait for all the
I-don't-get-narcosis types to step up and pet the pony. So far, since 1996,
I've had a grand total of *ZERO* accept the challenge. Take your time, I've
gotten pretty good at waiting.....
C.
