"safety sausages" , lift bag or whatever is being carried for marking are
kept between the backplate and body, with a bungee around to the front
d-ring for access, or just on the hip if there is not a bunch of other
stuff.

flares, radios or anything else that can't get wet needs to be in a
canister - slide it on in front of the light if this is a needed issue. I
prefer just not to dive with assholes or off of boats run by assholes, but I
know you guys don't get that part yet.

tools should all be in one bag, it should be easy to handle, and it should
be carried as a stage if big with clips on both ends or on the side if small
enough. You just don't want it causing a CF if you have to respond to a
situation or in a bad current.. If you really wanted to be slick, you could
put the tools in the kind of container we use to collect water , which can
be opened underwater and is carried like a stage. When we have to carry
something a long way, we take it in a scooter body or a similar tube towed
behind or rigged as a stage. These are permeable at the ends so they don't
lock up, the buoyancy is added inside the open tubes

Bottles are worn on the left side, but can be attached by the nose to the
hip ring instead of both clips being used between the chest and hip ring.
The smaller bottles do better on the hip, the larger ones do well if they
are high in helium content.

I know that you did not expect good answers to these questions, as most of
you still think that being a complete walking clusterfuck in the water is a
sign of a "tech" diver, that there are some "regional" issues that require
you to be a stroke, or that we don't know what we are doing, despite
powerful evidence to the contrary, but if you had to do the serious shit
that I do, some of you might wake the fuck up. Jarrod and I carry more gear
than you can fathom, and we do things underwater with total slickness and
ease as demonstrated by our ability to video places 19000 feet from an
opening under 300 feet of water and have it be television quality complete
with sound and HID lighting.

  Subject: Simple DIR placement questions

Hi all, Im just coming out of stealth mode to ask a few questions on gear
placement for ocean diving.
  1. Are safty sausages generaly carried and where should thay be placed?
  2. How about flare kits (I have several pencile type flares stored in an
old 4-c cell light housing )?
  3. Salvage tools, how should thay be arainged, I only carry if I know I
will be using them and they usaly only consist of a 4 lb. hammer, chisle,
small crow bar, and a drift pin.
  4. If diveing with a stage and a deco bottle (80 and a 40) are they still
both worn on the same side ?
Thanks in advance for the info.
                                                     Ron
