If you had no trough, you would merely do a 30 foot stop and then the oxygen
at 20 and so forth.

Yes, we do take a ten minute clean up break to backgas before getting back
into the water, and we go to something other than oxygen to move up at one
foot per minute to 20, where you can do the rest of the one foot per minute
ascent on oxygen or anything else you can breathe safely.

The idea is to get the last of the gas out by gradient gradually. You
rapidly diminish the amount of gas being removed by oxygen at one depth as
time passes. The rest of the tricks need to be employed as discussed in the
other posts.

Hi George

I see you get on the 100% for 150min at 30ft (presumably in the trough ?)

After which you do a 10min cleanup to 11/65, but then get back on the 50% to
move up from 30 to 20. Is that just "insurance" since you are now back in
the water and want to back the O2 right off after 150 min on 100% ?

Is the reasoning that if you can at least make it to 20ft (and have done the
vast majority of the required deco) and you DID have a seizure, you could
get straight out of the water ?
