To: All Subject: Cochran Undersea Technology stuff Fm: Mike Cochran Well, now we've done it. There is an "Anonymous FTP Site" that's accessed at: "ftp.netcom.com/pub/mc/mcochran". Also, our Email address has changed to: "mcochran@ne*.co*" notice the "ix." after "@" is gone. Whatever all that means. Anyway, there are two zip files in the FTP place. One called "DCI209.ZIP" that is the latest release of the NEMESIS, etc. Dive Computer Interface (DCI). No significant changes, just a few little bug fixes. If you are running an earlier version, we suggest switching to this one. It's just the ".exe" file, so copy all of your old files into a new directory and use this new executable. If you are running a batch file (usually DCI.BAT), change the executable file name in it. Your existing upload files will be compatible. Please test it before deleting your old directory or files. We haven't had any problems, but Murphy is alive, well, and active. For the NEMESIS II and NEMESIS II Nitrox, we have put a beta demo version of the ANALYST PC interface in this same place by the name "ANALYST.ZIP". We have included the install program, but you won't need it. Just unzip the files into a directory and enter ANALYST. Here's where we need your help. This is a new version (1.05) that is being checked prior to release. Play with it, abuse it, even enjoy it, and Email feedback (good, bad, and suggestions). This release creates Divers Alert Network (DAN) compatible research files. It also has a new "On-line, context sensitive, help function" (Mouthful<g>.) To assist you, we're NOT giving you the manual (nice guys that we are). It should not be needed, if we were successful. We,re still writing and improving the help screens, but would like some feedback on them as well. If you feel courageous, the screens are in the first part of the ANALYST.CFG file. Suck a screen out, rewrite it (max 55 lines), and Email to us. If we use one of your screens intact, we'll put your name on it as the author (if it's OK with you). Remember, we have a new Email address. The are several example files that you can "View": NEM2AIR.ANA is the standard "Air" version NEMESIS II; NITROX2.ANA has some nitrox dives that show mix switching, etc; SCARY2.ANA is a bunch of, umm, err, let me say "aggressive" dives. These dives are all real ones, but some were rerun out of our library onto the NEMESIS II, and some are from real NEMESIS II uploads. They are a collection of dives made by different divers at different times using different serial numbered dive computers, so, many of the dives will seem out of context. One of the more interesting dives is in the SCARY2 file where a second stage regulator failed, as in "big-time-free- flow". This diver obviously had the presence of mind to switch to his other regulator, tie off the bad regulator with a cable-tie and calmly complete the dive along with his deco obligation and an automatic nitrox blend switch. All this as if it was just another day at the office. Note his low Breathing Parameter (SAC) after the event. IMPRESSIVE!!! There is one bug in the uploaded ANALYST software that is intentionally left in. The first person to find it gets a free Captain dive computer. I'm off for a few days to Cozumel on our DAN Dive Safety Project that we are sponsoring. Response time will be a little delayed. Enjoy, and thanks in advance for the feedback. Mike.
