Karla, you could not have paid me enough money to go with you. I should
have turned right around that day when I saw the scene on that boat, or
stayed on the boat and not dove. I was hoping that I would find some nice
lone recreational diver that I could just take care of, like I usually do on
recreational dives - I really quite enjoy doing that as it makes me feel
like I am helping someone else have a good dive. But, there were not any
lone recreational divers on the boat that day that I saw. It was all
classes and groups of couples and of course you, who counts as at least
three people plus another 3 people for your mouth. Oh yes, there was that
one other diver who was a severe stroke and well suited to be your buddy.

I saw that the boat did not have enough flags for teams of two divers each -
you and your buddy were in fact the ONLY team of two on the boat. All other
teams were 4 or more, which would have made me number 5 or number 6 of a
group already formed. I was not about to risk getting left by some
incoherent newbie diver while I was hunting lobster, nor was I willing to
risk one of a large group wandering off while I was busy if I was the one
with the group's flag, so I asked if I could take my own flag. Furthermore,
if I would have had only the choice of diving with you or not at all, I
would have gladly sat on the boat and worked on my tan.

I normally don't dive on that boat. I either go out on the Brownies boat or
on another boat (which will remain nameless in hopes to preserve it's
charming recreational innocence from your kind) where grossly fat
pontificating tech-diver wannabe slobs like you are seldom found. Both of
the recreational boats I frequent are well-equipped with plenty of flags for
two-diver teams, and the divemasters know me well and pair me up with
competent divers or at least harmless and calm recreational divers. It's
really funny - I was talking to Trey on the phone after the dive telling him
about the 300 lb. droopy belly female (if you can call it that) diver who
was holding court in every way possible and whom the divemaster had to send
a diver down to retrieve after she sent her buddy up by himself, refusing to
come up with him while continued to dive alone well after everyone else was
on the boat, inconveniencing all of us, and Trey told me that it must be
Karla, the dog trainer. I burst out loud laughing, it was too perfect. Had
I known that was you and not just some anonymous fat slob while I was still
at the dock, I would have known what I was in for and gone to the beach
instead.

There is absolutely nothing worse than getting on a recreational dive boat
and having some loud mouth fat slob attempting to brag about her diving to
new divers and have her stroke buddy try to dispense incoherent advice about
oxygen partial pressures to somebody who has done over a hundred gas dives
with George Irvine. That pretty much ruined my whole day right there, but
the boat was already pulling out from the dock and it was too late to turn
back. If George had been there you would have been the one who got off the
boat, not me, and your buddy would have gone first - the hard way.

Ok, so let me get this straight. It's ok for Some on this list to talk
the talk, but not walk the walk? Do as I say, not as I do? Shit sounds
like my dad. You could agree with him and you would still be wrong.

Many have asked why I didn't ask Pina to go with me?

I had a dive buddy, and was the first off the boat. I had no clue she was
diving solo, or I might have said something. The only reason I knew, was
because my buddy and I met her along the way, with no buddy in sight.

Truthfully, I, as someone else said, don't give a damn what anyone does.
Except when I have been slammed by them for doing that same thing. Kinda
makes them a hypocrite.

Now, there are times when I do advocate buddy diving, and times when I
don't.

If George or Pina had come out and said that there were times when it was
ok, that would have been fine, but they haven't. They have expressly said
it is stroke diving.

So, logically then, the assumption would be that Pina is a stroke diver,
since she was solo diving.

  Karla
